About
Amoebas in Chaos formed in Bloomington, IN in early 1981 from the ashes of two bands, Blind Date and The Premature Babies. The band shared practice space with their pals The Dancing Cigarettes, playing live frequently at Second Story and other venues. They recorded two tracks at Dave Fulton's Back Room Studio in Indianapolis, located in the rear of legendary Indy record store Second Time Around. One of those tracks, "Designer Genes" appeared on Gulcher Records release "Red Snerts", a compilation of area punk and new wave, in 1981. The band recorded their lp "On to Mayday" at Zounds Studio in West Lafayette, produced by former Dow Jones & the Industrials keyboardist Brad "Mr. Science" Garton. The LP was released in 1982 by Hardly Music, an Indianapolis label that was a joint venture between members of The Last Four Digits, Dow Jones and the Industrials, and Amoebas in Chaos. In August, 1981, Rich, Lynn and Rick moved to Boston. The band found a new drummer (Kevin Cameron) and began to play live in Boston, hoping to break into a bigger market. However, Lynn developed tendinitis and had to stop playing bass. Briefly the band carried on, adding two members from Boston band People in Stores. But this did not work out and the band decided to call it quits in 1983.
