Summer Salt is an indie, bedroom-folk, pop band from Bloomington, Indiana. In addition to the songwriting of frontlady and multi-instrumentalist Emi Knight, Summer Salt’s first full-length album, “The Places You Call Home,†features vocal harmonies, clarinet, and glockenspiel tinkering of Ali Homan, bass melodies and vocal harmonies of Jenna Beasley, and percussion of drummer, Dave Segedy. Summer Salt was born in the early summer of 2011 in Bloomington, Indiana. For the previous year, Emi Knight had written, recorded, and collected songs like journal entries, about growing up, trials of living, and finding home. When she was asked to play a set for the “locals night†at Plan-It-X Fest, she took the show as motivation to record a cohesive album of her songs. Enlisting friends to sing and play along, Summer Salt was formed over the course of a few weeks, and they recorded “The Places You Call Home,†in the basement of Jonathan Morrison within the week before Plan-It-X Fest. Members of Summer Salt have also participated, or currently participate in other bands including, Mega Gem, Selfish Whales, Princess City, Beaker, Point Dume, Sleeping Bag, Prayer Breakfast, and Arrah and the Ferns.
