About
Gardendale and Berkley exploded onto the Bloomington, Indiana indie
scene in 2008. Fronted by playwright and dramatic pianist Loren Israel
Gurman, G&B fuses lyrical genius with musical theatricality and
instrumental variety. Largely a brio-pop ensemble, Gardendale and
Berkley incorporates violin, various arpeggiators, electronic banjo,
bandoneon and experimental synth in addition to the instrumental
mainstays expected in a rock group. Armed with nuanced musical
knowledge and strong sense of identity G&B creates a unique and
soaring sound reminiscent of some but derivative of none.
Having played a mere 35 gigs G&B is already well established both
locally and regionally and is well on its way to becoming a staple in
the indie music scene.
Lauded as "one of the best new bands on the scene" by WIUX DJ Kat
Johnson and fan-expressed "happy happy sunshine joy," Gardendale and
Berkley manages to create euphoric, driven sounds that culminate in a cohesive brilliance leaving its audience awash in modern orchestral
bliss.
