So here we are. I’m back. Chka chka Slim Shady. Haha, just kidding. Seriously, though, I bet you were all like, “Where DAFUQ did that amazingly talented writer, Greg Lindberg, go?” It is true. I have been gone for a while. But it’s not to spite all of my loyal MFT fans. I actually got a promotion at the waste management plant. I also had a son with my lovely wife. His name is Donald Freakshire III. Yeah, he doesn’t have the same last name as me, so? Grow up. It’s 2017.

So starting last year at The Spot in Lafayette there were several electronic music nights called the Electronic Frolic series. The consistency and inevitable creativity kept these things fresh and exciting. Landon Lehman has performed at the showcases as Lykaire, and he’s helped to continue the tradition this year with a full night of dance and EDM of various genre spectrums.

”So far Electronic Frolic has been a unique platform to introduce friends and artists who do tunes and get to share/collaborate/remix/produce at The Spot to perform live throughout the year,” Lehman says.

He adds, “There's been a need for live DJing in the community and original electronic content is exciting. Since Zech (Baumhover) set this up, all of us guys come together putting on dance nights together. It is a dance show down by the river that our friends love to visit. It's a different flavor than most campus stuff.”

Landon Lehman, a.k.a. Lykaire

This Saturday, there’s a whole buttload of recurring and new electronic artists. Opening up the show is Limbers, who is Luke Lindberg. He’s my brother, but he’s also musically gifted (think the opposite of Greg Lindberg – meaning you’ll like it!). He’s been DJing and doing experimental music inspired by Xiu Xiu and Animal Collective for a few years now around Kokomo and Indy.

Next on the bill is Caarn, a progressive/tech house producer and DJ working at Rolls-Royce in Indy. Caarn is currently focusing on getting his progressive and deep live set fully ready for live environments to later go on tour. Caarn, like Yuji (who works at Subaru), both travel a lot and have busy schedules, so they and the performers who have several jobs really see these Frolic events as a time to set aside and come together.

Coming at you next is Ghost Bed, currently out of Ft. Wayne, with a mix of cooled out EDM. Ghost Bed performed at the first-ever Electronic Frolic, and he’s a chillwave producer with a knack for drumming. Next is another hype local, Yuji. Hailing from Japan, Yuji mixes traditional Japanese samples, house beats, and more.

Wow, breathe okay? There’s still three more artists on this bill. And, hey, you don’t need to ever go asleep again. Old farts? This is on a Saturday so just forget about work for a night, okay? Great.

Edging the night out is Lykaire, who brings a unique electronic twist with his trusty accordion. Dude has a tight set, and he even let that nasty Teen Brigade add to his fun remix album that came out last year. Another staple to the Frolic, The Spot, and Lafayette is the mysterious Tim Gick of TV Ghost and Paper Claw fame performing under his solo moniker Empty Spaces After Dark. It’s an ironic name considering there will be no empty spaces after dark at The Spot this Saturday night. Just big, movin’ asses!

Lastly, David Peck, a DJ and electronic musician from Indy will be headlining and really capping off the night. You’ll either be in full dance mode by this point or asleep in the bathroom. Dude, do not sleep on the floor!

“Most producers are quiet dudes sharing memes making tunes in our bedroom,” Lehman says. “I'm very grateful for the nights we can put on a show and show what we craft while allowing a free jazz performance style to flow as we mingle and frolic. We have been starting these bills as a loose lineup, transitioning and building off sets. It's an exciting environment for synth heads and dance enthusiasts.”
