Yes, yes, y'all, we are back at it again with the monthly new music playlist up in this blog space. I'm happy to report that every single one of these tracks is a banger in its own special way, and that if you, yourself, personally, do not find a banging quality in the first, the second, or the third, why, then, you will (I say with a statistically significant degree of certitude) find that lovely banging something in, perhaps, track four.
Me, myself, I'm most drawn in by "So Damn Cool" by Cicada Shells, a local noisy hip-hop group whose latest LP has been in the works for going on six years (or, at any rate, the last one came out way back in 2011). Hear the whole thing--it's called Forest Noise--right here on the archive.
And then, what's this? Right after Cicada Shells we find my boy Teen Brigade (formerly [having now been totally subsumed under his moniker] known as blog contributor Greg Lindberg) wilting away on the title track from his new full-length Prayer Victim. I can tell you now that this track, as well, it bangs, but that it is the sort of banging you might hear first at the back door and only just barely, before the full force of realizing that someone is banging on your back door at 2 a.m. hits you and you jolt up in bed and find your slippers quick as quick can. This is to say it drifts in like smoke under a door; before you know it, it's everywhere, and you are as well a victim of [something].
There is of course, much else to love on this playlist, whether it's the warm industrial of The Sweetest Condition, the twang of the Dead Weight, or Alan Houser's trip-hop lilt, but no spoilers. It's blockbuster season and you've got to see for yourself, my friend.
Help us spread Indiana music, and we'll give you special rewards as our way of saying "thanks!"
