Sometimes I think and say things that bubble up only because saying them sounds good and thinking them feels consonant: "refracted shadows." This means almost exactly nothing, but it felt warm coming out this morning as I wandered around my neighborhood before the sun came up. Sometimes a couple street lamps can split your shadow in two; maybe that's what I meant.
Anyway, I was chasing a weird lonely feeling on my walk, which feels counterintuitive right up to the point where these songs come in. These songs spread their wings on the quiet loneliness. Whether it's in the repeating, repeating from REV//REV, the scratching echo of a half-remembered tune from Dr. Ray, or Doog's closing the door with faraway yawps, it all feels deliciously solitary.
So, last month in my first themed playlist, I gave you a soundtrack for enjoying an overly-warm Saturday. This one's for the days you can feel the clouds before the sun's even up to prove that they were there all night. Listen, walk, and hum under their influence.
Help us spread Indiana music, and we'll give you special rewards as our way of saying "thanks!"
