Today I have but one anecdote: a few years ago, on a sunny day, on the street in front of Broad Ripple's Luna Music, I found myself speaking to the lovely Jon Rogers (the former executive director of MFT). We were talking about local music, about all sorts of stuff, about how nice it was outside that day. Under his arm, Jon had a box of records under his arm--free giveaways for upcoming MFT events. There were several copies of The Pieces self-titled LP knocking about in there, an album I'd heard about but never heard. Somehow that came up, that I'd never heard it, and Jon got very serious. He handed me the record and told me to go home and listen to it. He said he'd fire me from MFT if I didn't do it. He said I wouldn't regret it.
That last part's a lie; Jon never threatened to fire me. The rest of it's true, though, and I didn't regret it, not even a little. Thanks, Jon. Now those sweet, sweet Pieces melodies are jumbling around in my brain meat and they'll be there forever.
This has been the story of why I put "The Wait" by the Pieces on this playlist. Stay tuned next week for more of my delightful stories and more tunes.
Thanks as ever to Smallbox for their support of this weekly playlist.
