MFT's 10th Anniversary Shows - photos, playlist, more

Well, here we are, more than a month since the MFT 10th Anniversary Events June 20th and 21st in Indianapolis. Both nights were awesome, but there have also been tons of other great nights since then - an unbelievable number of great nights, in fact. So, in case you've forgotten just how great of a time you had way back in June, or if you weren't able to make it to our celebration for some reason (don't worry, we won't hold it against you), why not relive a little of the awesomeness with the magic of the internet?

The following is a playlist of songs by most of the acts that played the shows, confirming the fact that these parties were packed full of talented and undeniably original performers. It swings from the party-crashing hip hop antics of Sirius Blvck, John Stamps, and Andy D to Shame Thugs' cosmic darkwave/R&B hybrid to S.M. Wolf's straight-ahead pop/rock. Go ahead and give it a listen while you read and browse the photos below - I made it just for you!

MFT contributor Lisa Fett helped capture some images from Friday's Fundraiser Party at SpeakEasy and Saturday's 10th Anniversary Show at Radio Radio and White Rabbit. As usual, her picture-taking skills were in full effect, and these photos bring the fun memories flooding back. Check out the full album here.

Both nights of music celebrated Indiana's rich and diverse underground musical culture. We intended these shows to represent some of our favorite music happening in the state right now, and all the performances exceeded our expectations - not an easy thing to do!

Christian Taylor & Homeschool brought their epic blend of orchestral folk and indie sounds to the SpeakEasy on Friday, next to solid performances by the always-entertaining Jorma Whittaker and Heavy Hometown (who are currently undergoing a name change). Hen kept us entertained throughout the evening with comedic interludes and their empowering chant-like songs, and Ko's set of beautiful, swirling tones and rhythms was a real treat, a highlight in an evening filled with great moments. Also, DJ Mr. Kinetik kept the great tunes bumping all evening, proving that he's the right pick for any party that wants to get into the groove and stay there. BrainTwins brought interactive art, big MFT cut-out letters, and fittingly colorful digital projections to keep the whole night visually interesting as well (as you can see in the pics below)!

Saturday's Fountain Square shows definitely brought out the crowds, and anyone who was there can probably tell you why: these bands were on fire! Every act sounded flawless, and there was a positive comradery pulling the whole night together for both the performers and their audiences. From ByBye's eclectic blend of organic and electronic sounds kicking off the Radio Radio stage, to Ghost Town Collective's hype-inducing hip hop throwdown set at White Rabbit (peaking with the party jam "Bill Murray" of course, then followed by Oreo Jones and DMA - Woah!), to blow-the-roof-off energetic sets from Andy D and Raw McCartney well into the midnight hour, it was an unforgettable night by all measures. Also, gotta say this: Sweet Poison Victim will forever be one of my favorite live bands, and I think they sound especially incredible at Radio Radio. Something about seeing them all crammed together onto that stage just makes their music feel that much more alive!

I'll be reliving those nights in my dreams until MFT's next big show I'm sure, but I wish I could relive them for real. Oh well. More pictures!

We are extremely grateful to all the performers and sponsors for both nights, and we couldn't have done it without the support of Indiana's music community. To everyone who came, donated, played, or supported the shows in any way: thank you! Onward to even more shows and community experiences with great local music!
