Swales is the pseudonym/ project name for songs written by Peter Oren and either performed solo or substantiated with a band. The band's first self-title EP was recorded in the spring of 2013 in Bloomington with Mark Edlin on drums, Connor Grimm on bass, Edward Joyner on piano and vocals, Nick Harley on electric guitar, and Peter singing and playing electric guitar. Diederik Van Wassenaer arranged and played strings on the track "Words Precipitate." Shortly after the recordings and a few live performances, Edward was phased out (so that he could work on his project, Heyoka) and replaced by Ryan Heimlich. After Swales opened for Joe Pug in April, Peter was invited to support Joe in June with a solo performance in Chicago. Shortly thereafter Peter put online a solo album called "(So Low)" and left town to travel on the West Coast. He returned to Bloomington in November 2013 with a new batch of songs and ambitions to assemble Swales's first full-length studio album, which is shaping up to include both full-band and stripped-down arrangements. Swales will likely hit the road in the early Spring of 2014 to support the record, though it's unclear who, apart from Peter, will be involved in that venture. Stay tuned.
