Secrets Between Sailors

About

Secrets Between Sailors is an island in an otherwise black sea of cutesy indie-rock kitsch and punk rock. Formed in the Winter of 2005 by Kyle Burkett and Zack DePew, with Andrew Maxson and Scott Vedron joining soon afterwards, the band began gigging under monikers such as Bayonet, the Dawn Raid, and Dragonchrist. 2006 saw Scott's departure and an experimental line-up featuring Ryan Helling and Peter Voakes. In early 2007 Andreas Butler joined on guitar and the new band made their debut as Secrets Between Sailors in a now defunct gay bar. Embracing influences as varied as Lou Reed, the Who, Pere Ubu, Husker Du and the Flaming Lips, the group recorded their first record at Russian Recording, and had it mastered by Bob Weston (of the band Shellac) at Chicago Mastering.
