Imagine if a hippie bluegrass band performed at a skate park hosting a Renaissance Faire somewhere in the mountains…that’ll get you pretty close to the vibe of Malingo. My music is a blend of folk/bluegrass/psychedelia that is often melancholy, often nostalgic, often intense, but always emotional. Basically, I want to move you in some way or another. And so I’m releasing new singles every month or 2 and a full-length album each fall - hit that follow button to catch everything right when it comes out!
In 2016 I started on an album, “Fay”, as a way to process and cope with my mom’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. The music is at times joyful, sad, angry, nostalgic, and reflective as it navigates the complexities of losing a loved one. In addition to the album, I put together a film using home video footage from the 1960s on…be sure to check it out on YouTube or Instagram. All proceeds from the album and video go to Alzheimer's foundations.
Writing “Fay” did a lot of things for me, not least it made me realize how badly I need to make music a regular part of my life. It’s either write songs or die. To that end, I’ve embarked on a decades-long journey to tell you pieces of my story and some of the lessons I’ve learned. Expect around 10 new songs a year - some you’ll love and some you won’t - but either way I sincerely hope you find value in the music I create.
Shows coming in 2023. Come say hey on Instagram! @malingotheband
