For Chad Mills, success is not measured in CD sales, radio play & record deals. The full-time engineer, husband & dad of 2 requires a different scale - passionate performances, satisfied listeners & making albums in which he can take pride. For this he strives and that is exactly why he succeeds. Somewhere towards the latter half of his five-year stint in college, this Hoosier native committed to picking up the guitar. His training was anything but formal or sober. Watching his buddies play, he'd try to pick up what he could. He tended to pick up songs a lot quicker than engineering. In the spring of '98, he left Rose-Hulman with a degree in engineering and a passion for playing music. A few short months later, he played his first gig at a bar in Cincinnati. After seeing the impact he could have on an audience, he would never be the same. The next few years saw many transitions. His commitment to music, however, never yielded. He worked endlessly on playing and singing, gigging at any place that would have him, and writing....a lot. In the last decade, this songwriter has written over 200 original tunes - not even half of which appear on the first six albums he's self produced. His latest effort, 2 Places @ Once, was released in May of 2006. Broad Ripple Gazette journalist Nora Spitznogle was one of the one hundred plus guests at the release show. Like everyone that night, she left with a copy of the new album. The songs made enough of an impression on her that she chose to write a review in her column Buzzing Around Town with Nora Spitznogle. She writes, "I love the CD; it has not left the player in my car. It is rare when a disc holds my attention for that long. Two Places at Once is full of love, angst & accountability." Chad is currently in the studio working on his next album. Expect that release to be sometime this fall! Being a versatile vocalist has enabled Chad to perform with a handful of different bands in the last several years, with drastically different styles. But take away the drums & the screaming guitars, strip him down to a microphone and a guitar, and this is where he is the strongest. Music, to him, is holy. He is indebted for the impact it has had in his life. He believes in what he does, and he takes it seriously. Just listen to him sing. Hear his voice. In his words, you will find experience and emotion. In his voice, you will find sincerity and passion. He is, without a doubt, in it for the music. 2nd Place Nominee for People's Choice "Best Local Roots Artist/Band" - NUVO Best of Indy, 2009 Featured as one of Indy's top "Up and Coming" Roots/Americana Artists - NUVO Nightlife Guide, 2009 Named as one of Indy's "Top 5 Local Bands - Folk/Acoustic Genre" - NUVO Weekly, 2007 "..As a vocalist and songwriter, he's one of the very best in town.
