About
Austen Brauker is a tribal member of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians from Manistee, Michigan. He works with stained glass, paint, cut paper, oil pastel, photography, custom guitars and other mediums, including traditional crafts such as leather bags, stone and ceramic pipes, and birch bark containers. Austen is the author of two full length fiction novels (“Homunculus” and “Penny Yarrow”), several theatrical plays, and numerous short stories and poetry. He has recently entered into an agreement with a production company for the screenplay “White Buffalo” to be produced as a feature length film. If asked, those who know him best would probably say “musician” when describing Austen as an artist. He has played guitar for thirty years and produced several compilations of original music. He plays numerous instruments including traditional flute and drum. Austen hunts deer, bear, elk and spear fishes for his family, which is also an expression of sovereign tribal rights. He currently works as a Peacemaker/Probation Officer for the LRBOI Tribal Justice Center. He is married to his beautiful wife Victoria.
