  1. "Woe is Me" - Barley Pops
  2. "A Great Leap in the Dark" - Tombaugh Regio
  3. "Mr. Nothing" - Bug$y
  4. "Estate Sale" - Brenda's Friend
  5. "Notendo" - The Shaloms
  6. "He's on Drugs Again" - Sardina
  7. "Losing Control" - The Kemps
  8. "Copyright" - Coyote Armada
  9. "Want" - Sunset Pig
  10. "Clean Fool" - Commercial Interiors

Lovely little pot of tunes today. All of them have got that smidge of something inside of them that brings me back around over and over. On that Barley Pops opener it's Jorma's voice--I'll be honest. With Sardina it's those hinges in the melodies, every time it's them. Coyote Armada, I love the the way the acoustic guitar seems to drift in like it's on a breeze. There's always something small.

I was just talking about this with a friend last night, about how music, all of it, deserves to be listened to closely. It deserves to be sat down in front of and to be engaged with. This is a bare, basic fact, and maybe it's boring for me to say it so directly, but it feels worthy. Music, mostly, comes out of humans, and humans are uniformly big complex balls of subjectivity that generate irreducible energy.

Take that last track, not even a song really, more of a podcast cropped together with found sounds. Human just leaks out of ever little corner of sound collected and sends me in to shivers. If you're bold, you can dive with me into all six episodes over on their Bandcamp page.

And, ok, let's step back from the philosophizing and talk about a show that's happening this Friday: Bloomington's Brenda's Friend will play at our monthly in-store at Indy CD & Vinyl. Their track "Estate Sale" is up in that playlist too just to remind you.

Thanks as ever to Smallbox for helping ot make these playlists possible.
