The latest EP in a Weekend is here, and it's a doozy.
As we mentioned in our preview story, the latest EP features a collaboration between Caleb McCoach, Sir Deja Doog and Vess Ruhtenberg (United States Three, The Pieces, The Last IV). Over the course of one weekend, these three much-loved Indiana songwriters got together to write and record an EP of brand new material. And now, you can hear what they created below.
Sharlene Birdsong heads up our EP in a Weekend project. Here are some words from her on this specific session.
“'Don’t fight it; invite it!' has played over and over in my head since the day I was soaking up the sunshine and Chreece vibes over at Twin Mono recording studio, where the latest EP in a Weekend was recorded a few weeks ago. Can’t go to sleep? Don’t fight it! Feelin’ weird about that new cutie? Invite it!
But, USS Indianapolis’ Shipwreck has much more of a story to tell. The Sea, darkness, confusion, death… you can read deep into the themes of these four tracks. But ultimately, it’s a folk tale of a Captain battling the Sea (and losing). The creative angles never stop twisting and turning, which is not surprising given that Caleb McCoach, Vess Ruhtenburg and Sir Deja Doog are manning this ship. I do not know from where the concept emerged, but I love riding the wave. Listen to the new EP in a Weekend and get swept away in a barrage of emotion and pure, natural talent. It’s the USS Indianapolis and lil babies you… are gunna drown."
We asked Kurt Nettleton to capture some behind-the-scenes footage from the making of this EP, which you can watch below.
