New stuff this week includes some sweet rhymes from Blake Allee who is back with a full-length entitled Toxic Flowers and from Wife Patrol, a band that sounds great but that I'll be honest, I'm probably not super objective about because it's 1/3rd my long-term Bloomington bud Nicole O'Neal. Take my word enough at least to listen through to track 9 on this playlist and hear for yourself.
The rest of the playlist has a broad assortment. Some new-to-me post-hardcore from Sabbabanks, and band who ride the line labeled "Steve Albini production" that goes straight to the base of my brain stem. And the off-kilter accordion weirdness of Captain Ambivalent, that's in there, floating around, resisting my desire to slot it somewhere convenient. I keep thinking about it though.
Perhaps most importantly is the little tune from Harley Poe. It's another band I didn't know until I found them here, but it turns out I was only one step removed from them this whole time. I've got good, good memories of being driven around suburban Indiana, headphones in, and Calibretto 13 blasting through my cheapo earbuds. At the time I didn't even know they were from Indiana, I just knew they tapped something particular I hardly even knew I wanted. Before I even knew it was the same guy, from the second I heard Joe Whitford chiming on these Harley Poe tracks, I was right back there. Music is time travel and time is a social construct.
Stay with me and we'll hear more music than your lizard brain can remember. I'm brining a new playlist every week, served hot with the optional side of nostalgia.
Thanks to Smallbox for making these weekly playlists possible!
