Friday night I was out tooling around and I come upon this drunk not-quite-Lego guy and he said he needed my help. I told him I didn't have many skills and he said it didn't matter. He said I should do what I can. Here's me doing what I can (viz., sneaking time into writing blog posts for MFT while I'm at my day job).
Tuesday night will find the wall of Debbie's Palace of Noise and Laundry in scenic Fountain Square threatening to crack under the pressure of five (FIVE) bands: Buck Biloxi and the Fucks, Heavy Lids, Raw McCartney, FYCs, and Giorgio Murder. I put Giorgio Murderer because I wanted to be able to say that Giorgio Murderer is in my top five favorite band names that reference real people starting now. Get to this show and be loud but respectful of the walls that will, as I've already said, probably be getting pretty close to bursting anyhow. Do it for the not-Lego guy. Put on a coat of mental primer with Raw's "Do It Yourself" in the playlist up top.
Thursday night down in the town of beneficent blooms (i.e. Bloomington), The Root Cellar will see Winslow, Dave Segedy, and Xetas (on tour from Austin) cram into the corner and try not to rattle the delicious French fries off the tables of the diners overhead. Do I have to tell you that Dave Segedy's in Sleeping Bag and that I put another Sleeping Bag in the playlist and that you can listen to it using your ears in much the same way you listen to all other music? I don't think so, no.
Let's stick with Xetas for a minute because on Friday they're coming to Indianapolis to play at Vibes with Chives and Mr. Clit and the Pink Cigarettes. Ok, did you listen to Chives' "Explodin'?" Cool, then we can unstick with Xetas and move on to Tunes4Tools, a great benefit show put on by the Indy Art | Media Co-op in order to raise money for their proposed Tool Lending Library. It's got a super dope, super deep line-up featuring the likes of S.M. Wolf, Sweet Poison Victim, Caleb McCoach, and more. Peep the Facebook event and be sure to buy tickets ahead of time right here.
We've got a lovely assortment of new stuff up on the archive this week too. Check out a full performance recorded on WFHB from Zachary Walter--and be sure to check out his debut self-titled full-length as well. It just came out and it's up on the MFT archive just waiting for you. There's also some recent and insanely catchy new stuff up from Bloomington's Brenda's Friend, and a little throwback cherry on top in the form of Stranded at the Drive-In. Bask. And my heavens, if you can spare a thought, send it in the direction of the distraught and drunken not-quite-Lego guy. He can use whatever you've got.
Help us spread Indiana music, and we'll give you special rewards as our way of saying "thanks!"
