A Short Walk #1 Tracklist:
A lot of stuff gets added to the MFT archive all the time, and you've got stuff to do. You've got to do laundry, cook some food, talk to your landlord about the stupid door frame and how it's broken again, and read all those articles your friend keeps pumping into your inbox. You might start to feel a little overwhelmed and like maybe there aren't enough hours in the day for you to scope out the cool new stuff on MFT. Well, what if I told you I'm here today to bring a certified disruptive solution to your problem, in the form of a convenient weekly playlist? Think of it like a disruptive music butler. I'm going to call the series "A Short Walk" because I like to reference travel books.
This week, whole thing is bookended by Bloomington bands that no longer exist. The Alarmists (Calm Down) wrote the book on my early days in college with their timpani slangin' loopy noisy rock, and Death Stuff killed it dead at a basement show I saw this summer with a furious shuffle through minimal punk (I think that was their only show, and I think the demo above is a recording from that show). Otherwise the playlist has whacked beats in various stages of decay (Dylan Prevails, Teen Brigade, BayNay), wide vistas of rock band triumph (Digital Dots, The Rutabega, Chives), and zags of singer-songwriter-dom (Joey Walker, Justin North). The Digital Dots track is from a live recording of a release show for their latest tape Greatest Hits at DJ's lounge; be sure to check out the tape itself, released on Holy Infinite Freedom Revival, as well. Do not forget, as well, that Dylan Prevails did production on Making the Bando Vol. 1, a recently released EP featuring KING GoD and Grxzz and presented jointly by MFT and Running Bodies Productions.
Help us spread Indiana music, and we'll give you special rewards as our way of saying "thanks!"
