Bloomington, 1992-1995. Lance Drake (vocals, guitar) and Mike Beam (guitar) started Shine and after a few changes settled on Jon Knight (bass) and Don Orban (drums). After a JEBFEST in South Bend in the fall of 93' Michael Henry (drums) approached the band and joined that winter. In the summer of 94' Shine recorded demos with the help of Jason Hinkle of the Housemarys; aptly called "The Hinkle Demos." The original masters were never retreived but second generation recordings survived and were re-engineered from a Fostex to Garage Band. In April 94' Shine played a benefit for Middleway House with The Smears, Plastic Cheeses and Drumtantrum at Second Story. After playing Rhino's, parties and an UR night or two, Shine abducted longtime friend Greg Backus and persuaded him to become second guitar/glossist. This lineup played the Bluebird in October of 94' and culminated in "Live at The Bluebird." With new songs becoming more scarce and members persuing other projects and interests, the band eventually folded. Their last performance with guest bassist Eric Himes took place with Brando opening at a Kenny Pfau party. The final (and best from a technical standpoint) recordings were done with Greg Backus at the Indiana University recording studio and will someday be posted to MFT. Special thanks to Shannon McGlothin for always being Shine's #1 fan! Kenny Pfau is God!
