About
Straight out of Indianapolis, Indiana, Pop Lolita formed in late 2000. The band consisted of Jon Harmon (guitar, vox), Mike Contreras (vox, guitar), Andrew Mahoney (bass), Amber Lynch (vox, tambourine), and Dave Megyesi (drums). Within a few months, Pop Lolita performed weekly at different bars and clubs around Indianapolis and quickly created a buzz through weekly write ups and reviews in NUVO Newsweekly’s music section.
The band’s first album recording, “It’s Recess Everywhere!â€, was quickly shelved after mixed feelings over the final quality of the mixes. Within a couple of months, the band recorded a follow up album, “smokerings and halosâ€, with John Toffolo engineering/producing the sessions. Halfway through the recording sessions, Dave Megyasi left the group and was replaced by Mike Theodore. The album was released in 2002 with critical acclaim. “smokerings and halos†reached up to #2 on Indystar’s best local albums of the year list.
Pop Lolita toured regionally throughout the midwest and performed at the Midwest Music Summit in Indianapolis and the International Pop Overthrow Festivals in Chicago and Hollywood.
Tensions between the band members led to the exit of Amber Lynch and the band started writing and rehearsing material for a new album with Mike Contreras taking the lead vocals. By the time enough songs were written for a recording date, the band began to dissolve with the exit of Mike Theodore. By 2003, the band officially broke up.
