About
Meanwhile, at Indiana University, Nick and Dan wrote some songs. They started The Heliocentrics, which soon fell apart around them. They stuck together as a guitar/bass/keyboard writing duo, occasionally joined by tambourines and small sing-along crowds. Under the Heliocentrics moniker, LP Symbiotic Yarns was handed to many an unsuspecting acquaintance. As soon as Dan's old friend Andy started attending IU, they drafted him to hit them pagan skins. A new name was needed, and a joke at a Fazoli's provided the proper inspiration: Naughty Monarch. About a year into their trio's life, Nick met bassist/singer/songwriter Drew in class; the quartet had been assembled. They played a few shows around Bloomington, at The Cinemat, at Israelpalooza 2009, and on Kirkwood Ave. The pressures of graduation forced them to play their last show at Dan and Nick's house in May of 2009. Post Script: Actually, their very last show ever took place in somebody's basement, where they opened for folky vagabonds Black Death All-Stars.
