Hammer Screwdriver is the work of the late Paul Julian Cobb. Paul was an important part of the Indianapolis music scene. He was a founding member, multi-instrumentalist and contributing songwriter to the band Amo Joy and was the bassist for the bands Accordions and Kory Quinn and the Comrades. Paul was also no stranger to collaboration and took part in numerous other musical groups and projects in Indianapolis. Paul fit well in the role of band-member but was also an extrordinary songwriter in his own rite. During his life, Paul was fairly secretive about his solo material, feeling like none of his songs were ever quite "finished". It wasn't until his untimely death in october of 2012 that his genius as a songwriter was truly seen. In the wake of his death, Paul's friends and musical companions started sifting through his cassette tapes and his loop pedal to find more than 50 songs, snippets and rough ideas for songs. The songs included here are a selection from those 52 tracks and document a 5 year span of his songwriting and musicianship. Whether recorded on a children's Fisher Price cassette recorder, a 4-track or a loop pedal, these songs embody Paul's uninhibited spirit and give an amazing depiction of who he was and what he believed in. As well as making these rough recordings available, Paul's friends and musical companions have commited to finishing an album of his songs and releasing them on vinyl and cassette. This will be done by arragnging and producing what is there and adding what is not. Along with the albums, there will also be touring under the name chosen by Paul for his project "Hammer Screwdriver" (inspired by a Cobb family story in which Paul's mother was pregnant with him and his parents asked his older brother "what should we name the baby?" to which he replied "Hammer Screwdriver").
