About:
Bloomington, 1992-1995. Lance Drake (vocals, guitar) and Mike Beam (guitar) started Shine and after a few changes settled on Jon Knight (bass) and Don Orban (drums). After a JEBFEST in South Bend in the fall of 93' Michael Henry (drums) approached the band and joined that winter. In the summer of 94' Shine recorded demos with the help of Jason Hinkle of the Housemarys; aptly called "The Hinkle Demos." The original masters were never retreived ...  read more

 1994,

Starla Jane Acoustic was performed on Lisa Sorg's radio show on WFHB on April 27th 1994 with Lance, Mike and Greg. It is the only acoustic performance Shine had made. Five-four/practice is the last song composed by the group. It was only performed live once at the Waldron Art center when we opened for Skree. This version was our first take of this song and though the quality is poor and mistakes were made it captures the spark that made Shine unique

that last Hinkle track is called "Sleepy Sun." And yes, I cringe a bit when I hear those lyrics. But then again, once angry young man+ testosterone= what ya get.

the version of "Unafraid" from the IU studio session is blisteringly good, listened to that off of a first gen tape I found & have about 2 months ago.

Mr. Beam started with a few Bluebird tunes. Mr. Henry finished with photos and the rest.

For the record, I love Shannon (ha)! But I have to say, when he yelled out that tune, I hated him a shade.

I'm not sure which Mike posted all this stuff, but hats off to both. I listed to the Starla Jane recording this morning and completely forgot about that track's existence.
