Multi-talented singer/songwriter Jake Latham is plowing a row for himself as an independent artist in a field where having a unique and distinctive sound is becoming increasingly uncommon. A talented mandolin player, Latham also plays guitar, harmonica, and piano. His vocals blend naturally with the rich instrumentation, giving the songs a classic feel reminiscent of new folk favorites Blitzen Trapper, Iron and Wine, or even some of the folksier songs from The Shins. Lyrics inspired by ordinary experiences, nature, and the cryptic political meanderings of his father round out Latham’s first EP Midnight Train, released March 1, 2013, recorded and produced by Paul Mahern at White Arc Studios.

While the deep soulful lyrics and impressive musical talent seem to reach far beyond Latham’s mere 18 years, an unmistakable and pulsating youthful energy infuses his songs. There is a certain fearlessness in the music, a diving in and pushing forward that reflect another side of this multi-talented young artist: he is an accomplished competitive rock climber. In fact, at just 17 he made his way to the national level sport climbing competition, which is only a short step away from the rock-climbing equivalent of the Olympics. The connections to the earth and nature rock climbing has afforded him deeply infuse Latham’s songs.

Jake Latham calls Bloomington, Indiana home and doesn’t plan to slow down anytime soon. His passion is large and continues to find expansion in his musical creations. Expect more from this talented young artist in the near future.
